The Ancient Magus Bride

I usually don’t like talking about brand new mangas because they only have a couple of available, but for this one I’ll make an exception. The new manga called The Ancient Magus Bride a.k.a Mahou Tsukai No Yome was created by a brand new artist named Yamazaki Kore. I give my props to the creator of this manga, it totally sucked me into the story and before I knew it, I was at the end and am now patiently waiting for the next chapter to come out.

This manga is about a girl named Chise who suddenly ends up in an auction to be sold to a bunch of rich people. Her  suddenly being auctioned off in the beginning of the story isn’t what caught my eye it was the fact that not only was she being sold in a world where magical creatures and other beings exist, but she was bought by a very mysterious person. Now, because this is a romance manga I bet most of you are thinking she was sold to a beautiful, mysterious person or something like that, right?

If you are then, you are DEAD WRONG!

Apparently, she’s sold to a very powerful sorcerer that everyone hates for some strange reason and not only that his head is an animal skull. No, its not a mask or a disguise spell or anything like that. That’s his real face! Besides, the fact that he as a animal skull for a head, the fact that he tries to cover it up with a small veil is very funny to me. It’s not like it’s really hiding anything. The moment you see him using the veil you can already tell that his face is disfigured in some way, so why hide it when you live in a world where creatures just like him exist?

Now let’s go back to Chise. She’s a red headed 16 year old girl who is suddenly bought by this strange sorcerer, but she seems to be really cool with it. In fact, her only main concerns were what he wanted her to do for him. You would think she would try to run or at least resist a little, but that’s not the case with her. You’ll find out later, she had a pretty good reason to act the way she acting, but like always I won’t spoil it for you.

After, reading the first chapter I didn’t know if I should be happy, sad or scared for Chise. To make things really interesting in story, not only does she get bought from an auction by an animal headed sorcerer, it turns out that he bought her for two reasons. First, to make her his apprentice. Secondly, to make her his future wife.

That really caught me off guard especially the way he proposed the idea to her. This manga is quite awesome and actually reminded me of a another manga that I’ve read a long time ago, but that can wait for another time. People are always saying, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ or ‘Don’t let another person’s looks fool you’ in this story Chise is going to have to see if she can love a man where the person inside might be exactly the same as his cover.

Thanks for Reading!
