Incarceron

edu.glogster.comWarning: This may contain spoilers!

So, I know its been a while but I’m going to be talking about book this time around. I did say I wanted to add more books to the blog so here I go.

This one is called,”Incarceron”, that was written by Catherine Fisher. Now I will admit I was browsing the book store and this one happened to catch my eye. I can say without a doubt that I don’t regret buying this book at all.

Its revolves around two different people Claudia and Finn. Claudia was the daughter of the Warden that watched over and controlled Incarceron. She’s also in an arranged marriage to the queen’s only son. Finn, on the other hand, is a boy who was sent Incarceron a few years ago and not only doesn’t remember how he got there in the first place, but doesn’t remember his life before that, as well.

To anyone living in Incaceron, it’s the most hellish prison on Earth with no way out. To the people living outside of it, it’s a paradise that people can only dream about because only really special people can get in. (I smell trouble and a conspiracy here!)

As you read, the book switches between Claudia and Finn’s point of view and later on you see how these two people are connected with each other. This book is really has a steam punk feel to it and it really shows how there are many types of prisons in the world and it comes in many forms.

There are many interesting characters in this story but if I had to choose the one I loved and hated the most; then it would be Claudia. I loved how she used the ultimate force of girl power in her time facing off against all her enemies and not letting the system tell her what she could and could not do. For me personally, her only flaw was how innocent she was sometimes, the deeper in the game she got herself in the more she couldn’t come to terms that some people in this world will go as low as they possibly can in order to get what they want.

The one I hated the most was Keiro. Not the queen, the queen’s son or even the warden who all deserve a place in hell for what they’ve done, but Keiro really takes the cake with me. Keiro is Finn’s oath brother in Incarceron; as the title implies they sworn an oath to each other that they will always take care of each other and if one dies the other must avenge him. The thing is with me at least, those are just words. Words that can easily be broken given the right circumstances and this prison provides a ton of those. Keiro’s that type of person that looks trustworthy on the outside, but is full of shit on the inside. Everyone in this entire book tells Finn that Keiro is going to betray him over and over, but Finn has such blind faith in him and the oath that he in complete denial about his character. There are a lot of times that Keiro does some crazy or suspicious crap in this story. All you can hope for Finn is that he wakes up with a cup of reality sitting on the table; waiting for him.

With how this book ends, it kind of makes you wonder what’s going to happen next. Things are getting really intense with how things are going. I really enjoyed the adventure, the drama and the mystery this story contains and can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

Thanks for reading!

Stalking Jack the Ripper

kobo.comHello once again everyone.

I hope your all excited for the new year, as well. I know I haven’t talked about a book on my blog for a very long time, so I hope to change that very soon.

This one that I’m about to talk about is actually one of my Christmas gifts this year, so I was a little excited to read it. Its called,” Stalking Jack the Ripper”  by Kerri Maniscalco. It’s mainly revolved a girl named, Audrey Rose, who was from a wealthy family, but liked doing things that society at the time would not have approved her of doing. During the day she was any other rich and beautiful girl, but at night she was a scientist that helped her uncle in his experiments with the human body. Cutting up corpses became a norm for her. Once the gruesome and mysterious murders of prostitutes started showing up around town by no other than the infamous Jack the Ripper Audrey’s curiosity got the best of her and she made it her mission to find and stop the murdering madman. Along by her side was Thomas, the and charming assistant (when he wanted to be) to her uncle.

I enjoyed watching their grow as they fight and find the truth together.  On another note, I find the summary in the back of the book kind of misleading. In the back it suggests that it was a girl in love with Jack or maybe even an ex from a long time ago who knew either knew who Jack the Ripper was or was crazy and loved his work or something. If it’s just me that thought that it was going to be like that then okay.

I was totally into the mystery, the conspiracies and handsome men that made an appearance in this book. I do like Audrey’s character a lot because she never really doubts herself, she’s so sure of what she wants and will do whatever she can to get it. You have to admit it was probably really hard for her back then than it is now considering the times we live in.

Now this is just my personal opinion of the book and everyone has their own personal tastes to whatever they enjoy reading. So, for me this book is very good, but it’s not addictive good and what I mean is if I reading a book and I’m super into it and someone comes near my space for whatever reason this is what happens most of the time:

Me: (Reading)

Stranger: “Hey, can you come out-

Me:“HOW DARE YOU INTERRUPT ME WHILE I’M READING! IS IT THAT IMPORTANT?!”

Stranger: “No….but-”

Me: “ITS NOT! THEN SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME IN PEACE!!!”

Laugh all you want, but never interrupt me when I’m reading especially if it turns out to be a really good story. Also, I’ve realized that this is a series and the next one is Hunting Count Dracula which I will probably get into later since it came out earlier this year. All in all other than the misleading summary and very elegant cursive handwriting for the letters that was put in this story, it was very good and would have to give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Can’t wait to read the next one and hope you like it, too.

Thanks for Reading!

My First Book

Book CoverAt last, I am finally able to do one of the major things that I wanted to do in life and that is writing and making a book. It took a lot of work to make this book and I’m totally excited to see my baby out of my computer and into my readers’ hands. You don’t know how happy it makes me feel when someone reads it and they tell me later on how good it was.

I would like to thank my friends and family who supported my me all throughout the making of this book and I hope they continue to support me. The book is called,” A Love Strong Enough to Kill” and is currently on Amazon if your interested in it then click on the link the below to give it a look-see. Also, it will be available on Kindle in a couple of days, so if you’re not into having the physical then just wait for the ebook to come out.

Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks Series)

The second book to the Jaz Parks series is,” Another One Bites the Dust”. In this book, the ass kicking duo as grown to a team and they are now on their next mission. Apparently, a crazy vampire stole armor from her old friend and current teammate, Bergman. Bergman is this paranoid, hermit type guy who is a genius that invents hi-tech gadgets for Jaz and for the government.

When he found out that the dragon armor was stolen he wanted to help bring it back. The team of five people who are Jaz (huntress), Vayl (vampire), Cole (ex-private investigator), Bergman (gadget inventor) and Cassandra (powerful psychic). I know you can already feel the heat with these people together. Bergman and Cassandra aren’t getting along because he doesn’t believe and magic and likes to push Cassandra’s buttons. I’m just waiting for her to stop and just strangle him.

Vayl and Cole aren’t getting along for obvious reasons. Jaz and Cole are getting along which leads to her and Vayl start to have a falling out. I know Vayl’s just jealous but he needs to learn how to express himself more if he wants them to be together. He seems to be the type of guy who just expects you to know what he’s thinking which she can……most of the time. Even though, they still care about each other.

That shows a lot in this book when Jaz starts to have frightening nightmare that could end up killing her. I was scared for her life while also screaming at her,”Girl, it’s a dream! Your having a dream, wake up before you die!”

It gets really intense and your just waiting for someone to pop and go crazy. There are so many close calls in this book that it’ll make you go crazy. I definitely recommend reading this as quickly as possible.

Once Bitten Twice Shy (Jaz Parks Series)

The first book to the Jaz Parks series is called “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” by Jennifer Rardin, who is unfortunately deceased and will be missed.

The first book mostly centers around a woman named Jaz Parks who works for a company that tracks down and kills evil supernaturals. In this story, supernaturals finally came out of the dark and have taken their place in society. Also, because of this the government has placed several laws for the supernaturals to follow because if they don’t they’ll send Jaz Parks to come find and kill you.

She’s known for being one of the best assassins that they have, but also one of the most reckless. Her boss, Pete, is a serious penny pincher so when he has to keep paying for all of the bills for repairs that she keeps breaking like expensive cars, hospital bills, state of the art weaponry, he gets her a partner.

That partner is Vayl. A sexy and powerful century old vampire who has the power to control ice. Theirs  a lot of mystery around him that comes with all vampires. Vayl wanted to become Jaz’s partner for some reason which he is yet to reveal to her. I could already tell that he was in love with her and was falling harder to more they were together. But, what good would any love story be without a love rival.

That’s when the sweet jokester named Cole Bemont comes in. He’s what every girl dreams of dating, which ends up driving Vayl up the wall. This was so jealous of Cole that the moment they saw each other, they kept sizing each other up. Since, Vayl doesn’t show much emotion except maybe anger or disapproval the only way someone knows how he’s feeling is by the temperature in the room. Since, he has the power to control ice when he’s really mad about something, he’ll make the room drop a couple of degrees.

Jaz and Vayl are like fire and ice. They are complete opposites but work really well together. So, far they have encountered vampires, demons and seers. I look forward to reading the second book to see what will happen to this ass kicking duo.

The Rising

I was so happy as I was reading the third and final book ‘The Rising’. The reason why would have to be because my wish was finally granted. Chloe’s group and Maya’s group finally meet in this book. I practically cheered when they finally came into the story.

How they ended up meeting was kind of funny. Maya ended meeting Derek in the forest, while both of them were in animal mode. You could say that their first meeting didn’t go over so well. Which ended leading to Chloe and Daniel having to come to the rescue. I wasn’t surprised when I read that scene. Chloe’s group was also still on the run and Derek probably thought that she was some kind of supernatural assassin.

Now, for people who have yet to read this book, I’m not going to ruin it for you. But, I will say that Maya’s love life takes some hits. Well, more than it endured during the last two books.

Also, what we already suspected about the reason for Serena’s death was confirmed.

Spoiler: Nicole killed Serena.

But, we’ve already knew this. I also liked seeing Nicole’s personality switches. She’s a very good actress and she fooled a lot of people thinking that she was innocent. If it wasn’t for the fact that, she probably didn’t know that she was switching from an innocent high school girl to an evil, self-centered and jealous killer. I’m not going to tell you what happens to her in the story because like I always say I don’t want to spoil anything to you.

I have enjoyed reading this entire series and I can’t wait to read more of Kelley Armstrong’s work in the future. The only thing that I wish would be to see a book about them years later. I really want to know how they ended up in the future. For example, who ends up with who, did they have kids, did any of them end up getting married or did any of them separate and try to be on their own? Unfortunately, there is no such book, so all we can do is use our imagination. I hope that you all enjoy this book and its awesome ending as much as I do.

Mystery unravels in The Calling

Things just keep going from bad to worse for Maya and her group in book two of the series. Maya, Daniel,Nicole, Sam, Hayley and Corey get on a helicopter after a sudden wildfire strikes their town. Only it wasn’t as sudden as anyone thinks.

The kids go from thinking that their saved to figuring out that they are actually being kidnapped by a supernatural organization.  When they figured that out, they accidentally knock out their pilot and had Sam operating the controls. It’s a good that she had some flight experience they would have been screwed. Well, except that poor Rafe ends up flying out the helicopter door and Sam ends up crashing the helicopter.

So, now they have to survive the wild until they can get back to civilization and find out what is going on. For her and Daniel, that’s not a problem, but their stuck with several others that have been their enemies for years or haven’t been in the woods like she and Daniel were. So, they made it a little tough for them. Also, another thing I found really weird and surprising is that either there is some kind water monster trying to drown unsuspecting swimmers or theirs a killer among them. I think I might know who it is, especially, after that said person starts to flip the script on her personality like a five-star actress.

When I saw that at first I was thinking its stress, people are dying around us and we’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. But, later I start getting suspicious and think that all that might not be the case. What if this sudden disaster was just peeling away the ugly that was always their, but never bothered to look at until now.

Anyway, again you all know that my only wish is to see the Chloe’s group re-appear in this story. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen either in this book. Hopefully, third time is the charm in the third and final book ‘The Rising’.

New story, New mystery: The Gathering

Welcome to the next story in the Darkness Rising Series. This story takes place in Salmon Creek a while after the showdown between Chloe’s group and the Edison group. As you’ve probably guess this was also written by Kelley Armstrong. Before, I even started reading this I was crossing my fingers hoping that Chloe and the people in this story to cross paths. unfortunately, to my disappointment that didn’t happen…….this time. You never know they could come up in the next one.

Anyway, let’s get this show on the road.

This one is mostly revolved our Maya, who is a sixteen adopted Indian girl who lives in Salmon Creek. Salmon Creek is a very, very small town and Kelley made that absolutely clear in this book. She used to live there happily with her two best friends Serena and Daniel. When I mean used to live with, I mean the Serena girl died right in the first chapter of the story. It was kind of messed up of how things started and Maya got really suspicious about how she died. She has a right to be considering the fact that she drowned and she was the captain of the swim team.

Since, after that chapter I had thought up several different ways she could have died. Later, in the story I find out that I was right around the mark, but I won’t talk about that until later. Your just going to have to wait until next week’s post to know what I’m talking about.

Anyway, a year goes by and weird things start to happen to her. She can hear far away, heal animals and has become a star athlete, especially, when it comes to track. Even though, she isn’t on the team. I just couldn’t put my finger on what she was. I was going crazy thinking about it.

Things get stranger and more mysterious when our handsome and mysterious bad boy, Rafe, come into the mix. Now when it came to the romance in this story, I was torn between Daniel and Rafe. Rafe was that bad boy who liked playing the mystery card, but could tell he had a soft and protective side to him. Daniel, on the other hand, has been her best friend since they were kids and has always been with her through good and bad times. You can tell he really cares about her, but I couldn’t tell if this was a protective version of his friendship towards her or that he liked her more than a friend. Again I think that will be revealed later in the story.

This just keeps your head buzzing. It just makes you want to read more and more and make you cry when their aren’t any pages left. I highly recommend this series to all book lovers. I hope you enjoy the story as I have!

Thanks for Reading!

The Reckoning

In the third and final book to this story, suspicious are aroused, misunderstandings take place and couples are revealed. That’s right folks in this last book the moment we have all been waiting for has finally come. Finally, Chloe chooses who she wants as a boyfriend. I might going to reveal to all those who have yet to read it, but let’s just say Kelley made it as dramatic as she could. There was so much frustration and mixed feelings going on between her in the boys that at first, she didn’t know what she wanted. Glad that it worked out though.

Speaking of working things out, it looks like Tori and her become best friends. Guessing after what they had to go through together and Chloe being the only person most likely in the entire world who even cared what happens to her during their entire adventure. Their relationship was hot and cold at first, but after the older necromancer, Margaret, pushes Chloe so hard that she almost made her own zombie apocalypse. They become close friends.

The ending was perfect and I still wanted to see more. unfortunately, for us like all stories they must end. If you want to see the side stories like they do have bonus books that tell about Tori and Simon’s adventure together or when werewolves come to find Derek, so they can let him become part of the Pack. I’m very excited to read those, too.

One last thing, remember what I said in the beginning that this is the end of their story? What I meant was the Dark Powers series has yet to end. There is another story of another supernatural that I have yet to read and will talk about in the near future. The next story in the series is called “The Gathering” and I can only hope that this story is as exciting as the other.

The Awakening: Secrets Revealed

Things start to heat up in The Awakening. If you’ve read my last post then you already know that this book is the second book to the Dark Powers series by Kelley Armstrong.

Anyway, in this book it becomes an adventure in which the four supernatural teens are searching desperately for Simon and Derek’s missing father.Orginally, the four run aways were supposed to be Chloe, Simon and Rae. But, as the saying goes shit happens and now its Chloe, Simon, Tori and Derek on the run from the Edison Group. The Edison Group is a group of magical doctors whose goal was to help other supernaturals with their problems and help co-exist with society. What seems helpful to them turns to become deadly for our main heroes.

In the second book it looks like Chloe’s patience and caring nature are tested when she becomes forced to travel with Tori and Derek. I think if Simon wasn’t there then I think she would have bolted long ago and went her own way and I wouldn’t blame her. Eventually, we see a little bit of a romantic twist in this story when it starts to hint that Simon AND Derek might have a thing for our cute necromancer. Of course, everyone probably thinks that she’ll end up with Simon, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Warning: Spoiler approaching!

When our main characters have no choice end up splitting for reasons I will not reveal. You start seeing Derek going a little bit soft on her and really start to bond. I found his protectiveness touching when it came to protecting her. I was kind of hoping that they might become an item before they reunite with the others, but no such luck. Now that I have seen the protective and softer side of him I’m starting to hope that they will get together. Sorry, Simon!

After, reading the book I wondered about what Simon and Derek’s adventure was like during the sepeartion. According, to Tori it wasn’t pleasant, which only made my curisoity grow even more. Turns out that you can read about their adventure from a book called “Darkest Powers Bonus Pack”. I very much look forward to reading that one.

I can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the third book. I bet she’ll try to make this one as cool and amazing as possible before it reaches its end.

Thanks for Reading!
