Yomawari: Midnight Shadows

KeClips.comI’m back and with another game to tell you all about. This one is called, “Yomawari: Midnight Shadows and it was developed by Nippon Ichi Software and was released last year in October and for good reason. This is survival horror about two young girls trying to find each other in the middle of the night after being separated by an evil spirit.

This game loves to surprise you in ways that I didn’t know were possible like in the beginning of the game it asks to turn off all the lights and asks you to look at the screen closely. It’ll even ask did you do it, so it makes you wonder if the game somehow knows if you did it or not. It would have been awesome if it could tell if you were lying or not. Anyway, I liked how you’re not even safe even when you look at an item on your menu because there are times when a spirit refuses to be ignored and by passes that screen. I’m not going to spoil it by telling you which moments so prepare your heart for that.

Left: Yui Right: Haru

Our two main characters in this story are Haru and Yui. Haru being the main protagonist in this story, but they do switch between to the two from time to time. The game starts off with a very disturbing and dark start when Yui decides to end it all and hangs herself on a tree for reasons unknown. Then, the story goes back for what I can guess hours before the separation of the two girls which confused me at first because I wasn’t sure if Yui was dead or not yet.

This is my theory about the inner working of the story, so Yui killed herself but I think that her mind was being manipulated by the evil spirit in the beginning for her to do so. The reason being is that little girls don’t really think about stuff like suicide in my opinion until there a little older to comprehend it, also the fact that she thinks that she’s still alive and looking for Haru plays a big part in my theory. From what I can guess is that Yui had such a strong desire to see Haru that after she interacted with Haru for that short amount of time, she accidently pulled Haru into the spirit world with her. That’s why during Haru’s search for Yui she sees all these monsters and ghosts and hasn’t put two and two together, she just thinks weird things happening tonight and nothing more.

Haru has a heart of steel to be running around in the dead of night looking for her best friend while avoiding all these ghosts wandering around town. I know if I was in this situation I wouldn’t be doing that I would run home, tell my parents and they would go and form a search party or whatever they wanted to do. I wouldn’t blindly run through town at night and next thing you know in the morning everyone is looking for two missing girls instead of one.

On top of that she has to avoid this scissor happy spirit, Kotowari, who tries killing her several times in this game. I don’t know what that ghost’s problem is, but it seems like he has a serious grudge against us. It sucks even more when you don’t have a health bar or anything. The moment you touch anything in the game that’s meant to harm or kill you its instant death. So, don’t be surprised or get frustrated when you end up dying a million times in a million different ways.

The ending to this story will really get you and if your into survival or horror games than I would definitely give this game a shot. I deeply enjoyed the story of these two girls trying to find each other even in this creepy setting. If your faint hearted when it comes to the horror genre then you might want to steer clear of this one. I enjoyed this game very much and I hope you will, too.

Watch this video if you want to get a feel for the game and decide for yourself if you want to give this horror game a try. Enjoy
