Today I have another horror type manga for you. This one is called ‘Prison Lab’ also known as ‘Kangoku Jikken’. It revolves around a bullied teenage boy named Eyama Aito who not only doesn’t know why he’s being bullied on a constant basis but why is ex-best friend is the ringleader of the bullies. Everyday he endures the bullying as it gets worse and worse until one day he receives a letter of invitation to participate in the captivity game.
The captivity game is when a participant can kidnap one person and do whatever they want to them for a whole month. The only catch is that they can’t kill them or their out of the game. Sounds simple right?
Turns out this whole game is more complicated than it sounds which you will find out later in the story. I’m not going to spoil it for you, guys. Anyway, it doesn’t take much convincing on Eyama’s part to accept the offer and get his long-awaited revenge. Their were two things Eyama was sure of when he agreed of the game and that is that he wasn’t the only one and that he wasn’t going to kill Aya.
His patience, smarts and dormant temper are tested in this game. Not only does he have keep his deep hatred for his bully in check so he doesn’t kill her, but he also has to compete against the other participants and try to win the game. My only question to this game is what do you get when you win?
There are other questions that need to be answered, but so far this manga is doing really good in answering them. Hopefully, they will answer all the mysteries that they present in this story in the near future. Yes, this series is incomplete and still ongoing, so I shall be waiting with the rest of you to see what happens in this twisted story. My favorite characters so far would have to be Misaki and Harakawa.
Misaki is that psychopath that you wouldn’t know was a psycho until she started ripping you to shreds with a smile. She was very good at hiding both of her sides if you didn’t know her and if you did then she didn’t care and is scary 24/7. She’s the wild card in the story, you never know what she’s going to do next. Harakawa, on the other hand, looks like that carefree run of the mill assistant, but as the story goes on you realize that he knows more than he’s saying that he has a bit of a dark side, too. The manga so far hasn’t revealed that much about his backstory, but I can tell so far that he is Eyama’s greatest ally until he is no longer useful.
This is a very gory thriller story that will definitely keep you on your toes. Just when you think you’ve seen it all something crazier happens. I love reading the inner journey of Eyama finding his dark side and taking on his new persona when he’s in the game. Also, I’ll say that Aya the bully became a bully for her own reasons which I will not reveal in this. If you want to know then go right ahead and read it to find out for yourselves, but for her I will say that she was a doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. Now, do I feel sorry for her? Yes and no.
You’ll understand why after you read it.
I hope you enjoy this dive into darkness and revenge. It’s sure to get crazier as more chapters come in which I hope is soon.
