Christmas is approaching fast and I hope you are enjoying your time with your friends and family.
For today, it’s going to get a little dark even with the happy holiday mood that most of us are in. That’s because today I’m going to be talking about the horror manga, DeadTube, which was written by Mikoto Yamaguchi and illustrated by Touta Kitakawa. It originally revolved around a boy named Tomohiro Machiya who is a member of the film club who suddenly gets a request from Mai Mashiro, who tells him if he can film her for two whole days no matter what happens then she’ll let him be her partner in her next project.
For Machiya this was already an unusual request, but he had no real reason to deny it so he recorded her. On the last day, she made it look like she was going to have sex with her boyfriend who was also one of Machiya’s bullies a long time ago, but she ended up killing him instead. After, the unexpected execution Mai decides that he is indeed worthy to be her partner.
It turns out that people including Mai go out of their way recording themselves committing crimes like theft, murder, violence, etc and upload the videos into a site called, DeadTube’, which is like YouTube only its full of gruesome and disturbing videos. After, the murder of the bully; he wants to tell someone and tell Mai to stop what she’s doing before they get arrested, but on the very next day he finds out there is no police investigation for the missing bully and that the crime scene was completely cleaned up as if nothing happened.
Turns out that the people who control DeadTube are responsible. How DeadTube works is you commit a crime then upload it to DeadTube. If your video gets a lot of views then you get paid a lot of money in return, but if you put up a video and barely gets any views or none at all then not only will you not get paid, but you’ll be charged for everything that was put into the video. For example, if the death of the bully didn’t get a lot of views then they would have been legally charged with breaking and entering, indecent exposure, murder and be fined the money that went into making the video. Luckily, for him it did well in DeadTube, so they don’t get in trouble and he got paid pretty good for it which freaked him out even more.
If it couldn’t get any worse it turns out that once you register in the site, you can’t back out of it unless your die or lose and end up getting arrested or something. The moment he agreed to film her his fate was sealed. Poor guy……is what I would say if it wasn’t for the fact that instead of Machiya being sad and distraught about the killing, he ended up getting off on it and that’s when you realize he’s just as twisted as Mai no matter how much he denies it. So in this series their pretty much a twisted couple, even though, throughout the story he denies them being in a relationship.
While reading it I liked how Machiya and I were on the same wavelength when I saw something really suspicious or off about something going on in the story, he would point it out later. It just goes to show that he’s smarter than he looks and he’s not just some shy, weak boy who does everything that Mai tells him.
This manga series is still ongoing and is definitely M rated. There is a lot of sex, gore, nudity and violence in this story and it’s still not finished so who knows what is going to happen next. The story is really exciting and darker and it continues to get even darker as you progress through the story. It’s really good if you can handle the constant gore and violence portrayed in the manga. Can’t wait until the next update on the story its sure to be something.
Thanks for Reading!
