Hello everyone!
Today’s game is going to be about the adorable RIME game that was developed by Tequila Works and Tantalus Media. I know I should have talked about this game a long time ago, but you guys know how it is outside of the internet. We got to deal with things in reality, ugh!
Anyway, I really loved this game it was so cute and adorable with a hint of mystery. It’s about a boy who washed up on the shore on an island that looks like had an ancient civilization on it at one point. Obviously, he’s trying to find a way off the island with the help of a spirit fox. As the game progresses, you can’t help but make up your story about what happened and what’s going on with this island.
My theory I got was that this was an ancient civilization that fell because they couldn’t get anymore power from the tower. As the civilization died the royal family was lost and forgotten, but destiny has brought the lost heir back to the island hundred of years later. So, he can restore it back to its former glory.
That’s what I got out of it, but found out in the end that I was wwwaaayyyy off from the truth. With the island expanding into a world and with unknown dark, blob monsters chasing me all over the place the ending revealed to me the truth of the story. It turns out the boy was dead all along and he was being guided by the fox through what I’m guessing was limbo to reach heaven. Each new part of the island represented one of the 5 stages of grief and the blob monsters represented the dark souls that lost on the way to heaven which is why they were chasing him everywhere. It was kind of a ‘if I’m not going to make it neither are you’ situation, so they wanted to drag him down.
Basically, the boy knew he was dead but didn’t want to accept it and tried to find a way back to his father. In the end, he finally accepted that not only was he dead, but was never going to go back to the land of the living and accepted his fate and went to heaven.
When I saw these scenes at the end that put it all together I was like “Nnnnnnnnoooooooo”. I was so mad that we went though all that and not get a happy ending and to find out that he was dead the whole time. You really get attached to him and the fox and some of these puzzles got me a little. The most frustrating puzzles were the ones where I was getting chased by the giant bird all the time, you couldn’t go anywhere without it on you ass.
Even if you’re not the type of player that likes to make sure you collect everything in the game, I really recommend that you do because it gives vital hints to what happened in reality. This is a game for everyone especially for beginner players that like adventure and puzzle games. I really liked this game, it really played with my heart in this one and I hope when you guys play it, you’ll like it just as much.
