This time around I’m going to be talking about the popular and recently out game called, “Little Nightmares”. The game was developed by Tarsier Studios in which I appreciate your guys hard work in making this game for us. I was interested in this game the moment the demo came it, so I was really happy when I heard that this game finally came out.
So, the story of the game itself is really up to your imagination, but I’m going to tell you guys what I think was happening in the game. You wake up as this little girl wearing a yellow raincoat. Yes, I say she because it feels like it’s a she. So, I say it’s a SHE!!! Their has been a debate what gender the little person is and I vote she because she a she vibe from the get go.
Anyway, this is a stealth/puzzle game where you have to sneak past these gross, deformed fat people who want to kidnap you for some odd reason. I’m good at stealth, puzzles not so much. It takes a person like me a minute to figure some stuff out, not going to lie to you. While your venturing on what you finally figure out is a ship, you come to realize that the reason all this fat people keep trying capture is so they can eat you because you’re a delicacy in this world. So freaking delicious that they’ve got (I thought this was a daycare for the employees kids or something, at first. Okay, leave me alone.) a whole smuggling ring operation going on where they take kids, feed them and fatten them up until their ready to put in the oven.
Messed up, isn’t it?
I know the theme of this game is dark and creepy, but they made something so damn dark that you couldn’t even see where some stuff was nor where you were going despite having a lighter. You never see the faces of the children nor the main character’s. Even though, the game was meant to be creepy it also had a lot of funny and charming elements to it, too. I always laughed when the chefs would see me and make that funny elephant sound.
At one point in the game, it kind of felt like you entered Spirited Away for a moment because everything takes a Japanese style turn and the head mistress of the ship is a geisha with a white mask. If you look closely at some of their faces, some of them look like Japanese demon masks. I thought it was cool but kind of out of place with the rest of the game art style and if you’ve played the game then you’ll understand what I mean. Also, I’m very curious at what type of creature she is because I thought she was just a regular child surrounded by giant adults that want to eat her, but then whenever she gets hungry bad things start to happen to the point where you question if she’s actually good or not.
I would say she’s kinds like a vampire but kind off not. I’m not really sure but at the end she becomes totally badass and gets her revenge on all those people who tried to eat her throughout the entire game which I thought was awesome. In my mind, she may be a being that can suck the life out of you and steal powers, but she still gave those people what they deserved so good for her!
I really loved this game, its creepy charm and how dark the story becomes as time goes along. The controls are really simple, so even a beginner can play this game as long as they don’t mind the horror element. Really excited to see if another similar game is coming out anytime soon and I hope you enjoy Little Nightmares.
