Tokyo Ghoul

I’ve been hearing a lot about this new anime show named Tokyo Ghoul. Before I even watched the show I decided to watch a quick trailer, so I could feel the show out a little. What I saw in the short clip shocked and amazed me and I knew I had to see more. Unfortunately, since this show is brand new it only has up to three episodes so far. But, their awesomeness makes up for their lack of episodes.

Tokyo Ghoul is centered in a modern world where creatures called “Ghouls” exist. When I say ghouls I do not mean the mindless zombies that are controlled by vampires like in Hellsing or in any other vampire story. These ghouls have intelligence, powers and social lives. The Ghouls in this anime eat human flesh to survive, they can’t eat normal human food because it tastes awful to them. One even said that its like eating horse crap. But, some of them have learned to ‘fake’ eating normal food in front of humans. I kind of felt bad they had to keep pretending to like it the food to survive, you’ll see the main character ,Kaneki, throw up a lot from just eating a single bite.

Speaking of Kaneki, he is our main character in this show. Now from what I can tell ghouls aren’t created, they are born like everything else in the world. I say this because Kaneki is human, but after going on a date that turned into an attempted murder by the girl of his dreams, Rize, who is a feared ghoul among her kind and tried to eat him. Things don’t according to plan and Rize ends up dying. Now things get strange when Kaneki wakes up to find himself a ghoul himself or more like a half-ghoul. Apparently, Kaneki was so badly injured during the attack they transferred some of Rize’s body parts to him which caused some unusual effects.

Now, he must learn to hide the fact that he’s a ghoul from the humans and from his best friend, Hide, while quickly learning and fitting into ghoul society. This is a very good anime even with its lack of episodes. Also, like most anime shows it was a manga before becoming and anime. The manga is called, “Toukyou Kushu” and what I realized when I first started reading it was that the art in the manga and the art in the anime was completely different to such a degree that it shocked me. The effect I got from watching it was much more powerful than reading it for me. So, I think I’ll just for more episodes to come out and see what happens next.
