Psychic Detective Yakumo

This dark and mysterious anime was created by Manabu Kaminaga. This show mostly centers itself around Yakumo and his new (even if he never says it) friend, Haruka. Haruka was a client in the beginning, but gained a crush for the good-looking teen detective and decided to help him on his investigations. We all know why she’s really there. She’s hoping to get close enough to him to see if they could be more than friends/co-workers.

From watching it, she might have a shot since they seem to be getting closer and closer, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. There is a reason why he’s single and has to do with his abilities and his cold shoulder towards living human beings. That’s right, folks! Yakumo’s secret ability is being able to see the dead with his cursed red-eye.

Personally, I love his red-eye I think its cool looking, but in this story his eye is scary to others. So much that people used to shun him as a child, sad I know. Later in the years, he decides to use his ability for profit and becomes a detective. People think he’s psychic though because he’s always right, but in reality he’s getting help from the dead. They usually call on him for cold or unusual cases that can’t be explained.

I really liked watching this anime especially when they decided to add the romance factor into it. Yakumo may never say it or show it, but I think he’s really grateful for the people who hang around him, even though, he’s grumpy all the time. Except for his dad, he can go away and no one would miss him. In this entire story, he tries to make Yakumo’s life a living hell and for the longest time, I couldn’t understand why. Why would you do these things to your own son? Maybe to prove a point?

If you haven’t watched it yet, just know that everything does become clear in the end. Except knowing if Yakumo and Haruka are going to end up together. That one is left to your imagination. I end up liking and not liking Haruka…..why? Because of how she acts in this show. I’m not saying she was a girly girl or anything like that, but I felt like she joined the team just because Yakumo’s hot and mysterious. But, there are times that she acts like a true friend and is there to support him in his time of need.

I don’t how you guys feel, but that’s how I feel about her. Anyway, this is also a manga which is equally as good and if you like dark stuff, mystery and seeing dead people then this is for you. I hope you all love it as much as I did.

Thanks for Reading!

  1. I quite enjoyed this anime too. Haruka is a little one dimensional as a character and her motives aren’t ever really clear, but she is nice and doesn’t irritate too much so you kind of forgive her for having little independent personality and ending up being the kidnap victim of the week more than once.
I quite liked the tone of this anime and I enjoyed the mystery around Yakumo’s parents and how this was ultimately resolved.
    Thanks for sharing.
