Gakuen Alice

This cute little manga is called Gakuen Alice and was created by Higuchi Tachibana. In this story, people who are considered geniuses all over the world get sent to this elite school for the gifted. The students who are admitted are treated like national treasures by the government. The only catch is that they are forbidden from contacting anyone from the outside, nor can they ever leave.

One day, Mikan’s friend, Hotaru gets accepted into the school and she’s never seen again. Mikan who so desperately wanted to see her friend again runs away from home to the school where her friend was at. Now everyone says that its impossible to get into the school, but luck would have it that she runs into one of the teachers and takes a shine to her.

Also, that same day she meets Natsume. A cool looking boy who wears a black cat mask and has control over fire. When these two met, she saw him blow up a wall with his fire power in order to escape. Ever since, that day these two have been at each other’s throats because he so mean to her for no reason and she doesn’t understand why.

Mikan gets accepted into the school after they tell her that she also has a power or what they call an ‘Alice’ that has the power to nullify any other person’s power. Turns out that the school wasn’t made for geniuses like everyone thinks, its actually a school for people who have powers. The main focus of this school is to find them and help them hone their powers so they can use them to help society. Turns out that Mikan’s friend has a technology power, which she can use to make anything that she wants.

Later, we discover that Natsume is considered a problem child because he tries to escape the school constantly. As punishment he has to wear the black cat mask which cancels out the wearers powers. But, he so powerful that he can still use them with it on, so what I want to know is why they even bother putting the mask on him in the first place?

Natsume is considered the bad boy in this manga and he only has one friend and that’s Luca who has the power to bond and control animals. He looks as bad as Natsume until you put him around animals and then he turns into a whole different person.

Anyway, Mikan has it tough at this school and I wonder what she’ll do next. For some reason, I think Natsume and Mikan we’ll become friends later………way later in the story by what I can tell. This is a really cute manga and I recommend it to all that like these type of stories.
