Ghostly Adventures of 9 R.I.P.-Game Review

This is the perfect game to play and get immersed in during October or the Halloween, fall season. Its got everything you need; a good story, interesting characters, ghost, demons, curses and more.

9 R.I.P. was developed by Otomate and published by Idea Factory which is known for many visual novel games in the past. Its about a high school girl named Misa who is experiencing a stressful time in her life where she must decide on the next stage of her life. Problem is she has no clue what she wants to do with her life; this stress causes her gain the attention of someone or something from the unknown and the next Misa knows, she’s being hit by Truck-kun.

When she wakes up, she’s shocked to see that she’s a ghost and must now navigate and survive this new world. But, is all hope lost? Is everything as it seems?

I think not.

This ghostly visual novel is currently only available on the Nintendo Switch, but they might make it available in other platforms in the near future. But, for the ones with a Switch at home, they can play it at their convenience where not long into playing you start to squint your eyes. Reason being the game showcases the characters in the opening, but forces you to interact with only two of them the entire game. Players do not worry; if you complete the first playthrough or path in the game, more characters will become accessible to you.

You want to romance your favorite or all the characters? You’ll have to work for it.

Which is a very unique and interesting strategy on the developers part, it challenges the player to get the right choices or complete the path in order to get more characters as a reward. While encouraging longer play time for the game itself. The scenes that happen in the game keep their creepy tone while having tender and funny moments mixed in, too.

The only feature that seemed more unnecessary than annoying is the option to do low or high intensity to a chapter. Other than making the episode visually creepy and more stressful sounding, it doesn’t effect the story at all. Makes you wonder why they added this feature to begin with. But, other than that, each character’s story is unique, as well, as all the endings for each character. The art, the music, the creepy undertones are amazing and if your into the supernatural, visual novels or like romance games in general then you’ll enjoy this game.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5
