This time I’ll be talking about a manga called, “Darwin’s Game” by Flipflops…….yes, the creators really call themselves Flipflops. Deal with it.
Moving on, just from looking at the title alone my initial thought about this series was that it was going to be about some kind of game having to do with extinction and evolution of some kind. Turns out I was kind of right, but in a different sense. In the beginning, the story just jumps right in with a murder. The main character’s friend who has been missing for the last couple of days gets killed by someone wearing a panda loving baseball mascot outfit. But, right before Kyoda gets killed he sends an SOS link to Sudo Kaname in order for him to get help. Well, we all know how that turns out.
Of course, when Kaname gets the link he clicks on it just because he’s super curious and not knowing how much this will change his life forever. Darwin’s Game is a social networking game, so when you enter or activate the game all you would be doing is be transported to somewhere else in reality or for your opponent vice versa. The moment you sign up for the game a snake comes out of your screen and bites you on the neck which activates a power within you to help fight against other players.
While reading it I noticed some people get really cool powers and some get really shitty ones. I guess it really depends on the person. For our guy, Kaname gets an unknown power that the game itself hasn’t seen in a while and of course it takes him a while to figure out what that power is. His power is summoning anything he’s at least seen once to himself which is quite handy. Also, to everyone in the game it became quite obvious that not only was he powerful, but became quite the prodigy when it came to playing. Kaname’s goal is to beat the game which he himself doesn’t even know what that means, but its better than the alternative method to getting out of the game.
Death.
This series is still ongoing, so please have some patience or if you don’t have any then just wait for the series to be complete then you can read it. So far its really good and it actually reminded me of a similar series called “Alive-The Final Evolution”. It was kind of similar in the way of powers and fighting to the death and all that, but without the technology and yes, the Alive manga is complete. So, you can go ahead and read this one if you haven’t already while the other finishes up.
If you like action, cute girls, powers and conspiracy then you should put this on your read next list. I don’t recommend this for people who don’t like violence and light gore, but seriously though what manga doesn’t have violence in it nowadays? Hope you enjoy the manga.
